Planting the right tree in the right place can do more than beautify your yard—it can help lower your energy bills. LL&P teamed up with the Arbor Day Foundation to provide 100 free trees to customers. Through our Free Tree Program, customers have the opportunity to receive a complimentary tree to plant at their home, providing long-term energy savings and environmental benefits.

Strategically placed trees act as natural shade, reducing the amount of direct sunlight that hits your home. During the summer months, this can significantly decrease indoor temperatures and lessen the need for air conditioning. In fact, shade trees planted on the west and south sides of a home can help cut cooling costs by up to 25%! In the winter, trees can also serve as windbreaks, helping to reduce heating costs by blocking cold winds.

Beyond energy savings, trees improve air quality, reduce stormwater runoff, and enhance property value. They also contribute to a more sustainable community by lowering overall energy demand.

Through the Free Tree Program, customers can select from a variety of tree species suited to our local climate. Each tree comes with planting guidelines to ensure proper placement for maximum energy efficiency and long-term growth.

Customers are encouraged to consider factors such as distance from structures, power lines, and underground utilities when planting their tree. Proper placement not only maximizes energy savings but also helps maintain safe and reliable electric service.

Customers can sign up online by going to the link found in their first invoice email notification or on the bill insert, choose their preferred tree, and pick it up during the scheduled distribution period.
